Springtime is the best time to take care of home maintenance items after a long winter! Get outside and enjoy the warm weather while taking care of a few things around the yard. Cross off your to-do list before summer starts!
☐ Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors replace batteries or replace unit if older than 10 years.
☐ Inspect and/or replace fire extinguishers if they have lost some charge pressure.
☐ Change HVAC filters (as per system requirements or at least every 3 months).
☐ Clean and/or replace range hood filter and replace refrigerator water and air filters.
☐ Clean underneath major appliances and vacuum refrigerator coils if accessible.
☐ Look for moisture in the basement or wet areas in crawl space.
☐ Test and ensure that sump pump is working properly.
☐ Inspect dryer vents and air ducts for buildup of lint, debris or signs of mold.
☐ Inspect attic for any signs of leaks or pest intrusion.
☐ Clean out gutters and downspouts. Ensure that downspout extensions are clean and attached.
☐ Inspect sidewalks, pathways, patios and driveway. Pressure wash to clean and refresh appearance.
☐ Inspect decks, railings, windowsills and steps. Repair or replace any loose or rotten sections.
☐ Pressure wash decks and outside patio furniture. Reseal decks and patios to extend life.
☐ Check or schedule annual septic tank inspection, pump out if necessary.
☐ Remove storm windows and install screens. Repair or replace screens if torn or have holes.
☐ Clean windows with a mix of white vinegar and distilled water solution for spot-free view.
☐ Inspect caulking around doors and windows for damage and wear. Recaulk if necessary.
☐ Inspect and test air conditioning system and service if needed.
☐ Inspect roof and chimney for damage. If damage is found, look inside attic for signs of leaks.
☐ Inspect exterior siding and masonry. Repaint and repair as necessary.
☐ Clean debris from foundation vents, under the deck and out of the window wells & flower beds
☐ Prune spring-flowering shrubs after they bloom.
☐ Prune summer-flowering shrubs before they bloom.
☐ Inspect the sprinkler heads for damage, recharge the system and test. Adjust heads as necessary.
☐ Apply the correct spring formulated lawn fertilizer with crabgrass control.
☐ Inspect and tune up any lawn maintenance equipment. Sharpen lawn mower blades.
☐ Inspect and clean outdoor play equipment, reattach garden hoses and replace mulch.
